Daniel Sturridge preferred to Jamie Vardy for Iceland clash?

Roy Hodgson will reportedly stick with Daniel Sturridge in attack for England's last-16 tie with Iceland on Monday, with Jamie Vardy to be among the substitutes.

Daniel Sturridge will get the nod over Jamie Vardy for England's last-16 showdown with Iceland on Monday evening, according to a report.

The Liverpool striker was handed a starting role against Slovakia last time out after rescuing a dramatic victory late on against Wales.

Sturridge was unable to make a breakthrough in the goalless draw, however, which has left manager Roy Hodgson with a big decision to make ahead of the crucial meeting against minnows Iceland.

It has been claimed by The Sun that Sturridge will retain his place in attack, although he will be shoved out wide to accommodate the returning Harry Kane through the middle.

Adam Lallana, it is suggested, will also be given the nod out on the right, despite suffering an injury scare in training just a few days prior to the last-16 match.

The same report states that five players will be recalled to the starting lineup in Nice, with Kyle Walker and Danny Rose among those to return at full-back, while Wayne Rooney and Dele Alli will take up two of the midfield roles after being rested last week.
