Rio Ferdinand: 'England won't make it past quarter-finals at Euro 2016'

Former England centre-back Rio Ferdinand admits that he cannot see Roy Hodgson's side making it past the quarter-finals at Euro 2016 this summer.

Former England centre-back Rio Ferdinand has said that he does not think the current crop of players are good enough to progress beyond the quarter-finals of Euro 2016.

Roy Hodgson's side boasted the only 100% record in qualifying for the competition, achieving that feat for the first time in their history, and today began their preparations for the tournament with a get-together at the National Football Centre.

Friendlies against Germany and Netherlands next month will see the Three Lions step up those preparations, but Ferdinand does not believe that they will be able to match the continent's best teams.

When asked whether England could make it past the quarters, Ferdinand told NDTV: "No. Based on what I have seen I don't think so.

"To go through the quarters and the semis and the final of this tournament and potentially win it, you've got to beat a France, you've got to beat a Germany and/or you've got to beat a Spain.

"I don't think England will be able to do that, given what we have seen. I just don't think they are capable."

England have been drawn in Group B alongside Russia, Wales and Slovakia.
