Everton boss Roberto Martinez: 'Aaron Lennon ready for England recall'

Roberto Martinez believes that Aaron Lennon can "help" England again having returned to goalscoring form with Everton.

Roberto Martinez has said that Aaron Lennon is ready to "help" England again after returning to form with Everton.

Lennon, 29, has been a regular for the Toffees of late and has scored four goals since the turn of the year, including in Everton's last three 3-0 wins over Carlisle United, Newcastle United and Stoke City.

However, he was not invited to an England get-together today like teammate Tom Cleverley, although Martinez does believe that he could come into Roy Hodgson's thinking with Euro 2016 just four months away.

"Aaron is a very proud man and he will be very proud of representing England again but I don't think that was the drive for him reaching the level he has," Martinez told reporters.

"I think the drive was to try to earn a place in the team and clearly he has given a lesson to everyone with how to behave in that role. He is a winger with a lot of experience and has the quality to get away from defenders but his defensive qualities are very strong.

"He will be ready if he needs to help England but at the moment he needs to concentrate on keeping the level of his performances he has shown in the last three games which has been the best consistent form he has had at Everton."

It is three years this month since former Tottenham Hotspur winger Lennon last played for England in a friendly against Brazil.
