Jeffrey Schlupp: 'Crystal Palace have not pointed fingers at Christian Benteke'

Crystal Palace defender Jeffrey Schlupp insists that Christian Benteke was not scapegoated following Saturday's last-minute penalty miss against Bournemouth.

Crystal Palace defender Jeffrey Schlupp has insisted that there has been "no finger-pointing" at Christian Benteke following Saturday's last-minute penalty miss against Bournemouth.

The Eagles were awarded a late spot kick against the Cherries with the scores level at 2-2 and the Belgian striker took over from Luka Milivojevic, who had netted from the spot earlier in the game.

Benteke, without a goal since May, was subsequently denied by Asmir Begovic as Palace slipped back to the bottom of the Premier League table amid criticism from the club's fans, and Schlupp has confirmed that his teammate has apologised for the incident.

"I think, obviously, he wanted to end his goal drought and the ball was passed to him and he took it," Schlupp told Sky Sports News.

"It's one of those things, you have set-piece takers that are designated set-piece takers and I think not in any scenario should that change but he stepped up and missed it and we move forward.

"There's no finger-pointing or getting onto him, he's held his hands up and he's apologised and everyone moves forward."

Palace have recorded just two victories from 16 games this season, though they are on a run of five without defeat.
