Coventry City sign ex-Wolverhampton Wanderers skipper Sam Ricketts

Coventry City sign former Wolves captain Sam Ricketts on a one-year contract.

Former Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Sam Ricketts has joined Coventry City on a one-year deal.

The 33-year-old had been without a club after being released by Wolves at the end of last season.

Ricketts spent two years at Molineux and helped the team win the League One title in 2014.

"Since I joined the club last season, I've spoken about the importance of leadership and experience in the dressing room," Coventry boss Tony Mowbray is quoted as saying by BBC Sport. "Sam captained Wolves to the League One title when he was an ever-present.

"Sam knows what it takes to get out of this division. He has a wealth of experience at Premier League and Championship level and can play across the back-line as well as in midfield."

Ricketts is Coventry's second signing of the summer following the arrival of former Forest Green left-back Chris Stokes.
