Uruguay have made a formal complaint to the South American Football Confederation over Edinson Cavani's sending off at the hands of Chile defender Gonzalo Jara.
During Wednesday's Copa America quarter-final clash between the hosts and the 2010 World Cup semi-finalists, the Mainz 05 defender appeared to insert his finger up Cavani's backside.
Cavani retaliated by pushing Jara away, and the 29-year-old fell to the floor, prompting the referee to send the Paris Saint-Germain striker off.
Uruguay's football association confirmed in a statement: "The AUF's executive committee decided to open the defence of the player Edinson Cavani. It denounced to CONMEBOL's disciplinary body the actions of the player Gonzalo Jara."
The game finished 1-0 to Chile, while Uruguay finished the game with nine men after Jorge Fucile was sent off two minutes from time.
