Rafael Benitez claims that Fernando Torres would have no problem if Chelsea sign a new striker in January.

Chelsea interim manager Rafael Benitez has said that Fernando Torres has backed the idea of signing a new striker in January.

The Spaniard says that the 28-year-old forward understands that the Blues need to increase "competition" in the squad.

"He knows that we need this competition, we know that we need this competition," Sky Sports News quotes Benitez as saying.

"The problem in January always is, 'Which one?'. Which player is available, which player is good enough to be here in a top side? So, it's not easy, but I think it will be positive for everyone.

"And Fernando is ready to fight for his position. He has no problem because he has a lot of confidence and he is enjoying now his football."

Chelsea are currently seventh in the Premier League table.
