Daniel Sturridge replaces Fernando Torres up front for Chelsea at the Stadium of Light while Raul Meireles and Juan Mata make their first Blues starts.

Chelsea's Daniel Sturridge has replaced Fernando Torres for the trip to Sunderland in the Premier League.

Torres drops to the bench while new signing Raul Meireles makes his debut for the Blues.

Juan Mata also makes his first start for Chelsea, replacing Florent Malouda while Petr Cech returns in goal following a two-game absence.

Sunderland start with new signing Nicklas Bendtner up front after it was confirmed that Asamoah Gyan has joined UAE club Al-Ain on a season-long loan.

Sunderland: Mignolet; Bardsley, Bramble, Brown, Richardson; Larsson, Cattermole, Gardner, Colback, Sessegnon; Bendtner.

Chelsea: Cech; Bosingwa, Ivanovic, Terry, Cole; Mata, Lampard, Ramires, Meireles; Sturridge, Anelka.
