The Premier League are set to give Chelsea's proposed takeover 'the green light' this week, according to a report.

The Premier League are set to give Chelsea's proposed takeover 'the green light' this week, according to a report.

Earlier this month, the Blues announced that an agreement has been reached for Todd Boehly and his consortium to take control of the club from current owner Roman Abramovich.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Boehly and his consortium are expecting to receive confirmation that they have passed the necessary ownership and directors' tests "immediately".

The report add that former Unicef executive Mike Penrose has 'promised' the Government that Abramovich will not benefit from the deal.

Should the Blues be granted permission by the Premier League for the takeover to go ahead, Boehly and his group must then wait for government approval before the deal can be finalised.

A different report has recently claimed that the government have concerns that the takeover of Chelsea will not go through before the May 31 deadline.

Chelsea are currently unable to make transfers or negotiate new contracts with players due to the sanctions imposed on Abramovich, but a special licence from the government has permitted them to continue their footballing activities.
