FA chairman Greg Dyke 'baffled' by Fernando Torres's let-off

FA chairman Greg Dyke criticises the governing body's disciplinary system for their failure to punish Chelsea striker Fernando Torres.

Football Association chairman Greg Dyke has blasted the governing body's disciplinary department for not taking retrospective action against Chelsea striker Fernando Torres.

Under the rules, a three-man panel were unable to punish the Spaniard, who was caught on camera scratching the face of Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen during a 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane.

"Despite the action taken in the summer to change the rules, they clearly weren't changed enough," said Dyke during the Leaders in Football conference at Stamford Bridge.

"It is understandably baffling to everyone and must be addressed. As FA chairman, I don't like being in a position where I can't explain why we can't take action."

Torres was later sent off during the game for a second bookable offence.
