Andre Villas-Boas brands Football Association "a disgrace" over Fernando Torres

Andre Villas-Boas voices his anger at the Football Association's decision not to punish Fernando Torres for his gauge at Jan Vertonghen's face.

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Andre Villas-Boas has described the decision not to punish Fernando Torres for his clash with Jan Vertonghen at the weekend as "a disgrace".

The Chelsea striker sunk his fingernails into the face of the Spurs defender - an action that went unpunished at the time.

However, the Football Association confirmed yesterday that no further action would be taken against the Spaniard because one of the match officials had witnessed part of the incident.

When asked about that decision earlier today, Villas-Boas expressed his disbelief: "It's extremely difficult to know where to start. Obviously it is almost a farcical decision. It doesn't matter to me which player or which club is involved," he told reporters.

"The FA has made the decision almost a joke - it looks incredible. How can you see these images pretty clear and come out without punishment? The decision is a disgrace."

Torres was later sent off at White Hart Lane, but he will only serve a one-match ban for that offence.
