Half-Time Report: Tottenham Hotspur ahead against Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur lead Chelsea at the break thanks to a Gylfi Sigurdsson goal midway through the first half.

Tottenham Hotspur lead Chelsea 1-0 at half time this afternoon, thanks to Gylfi Sigurdsson's third league goal of the season.

Chelsea started brightly and threatened the home defence primarily through Eden Hazard, who found himself on the end of several fouls from Spurs players.

Jan Vertonghen then sent a header across goal from Christian Eriksen's cross but no-one was on hand to head it in. However, minutes later Spurs were ahead.

Eriksen was again involved, collecting the ball and feeding Roberto Soldado inside the box. The Spaniard found Sigurdsson, who rode a John Terry challenge and put the ball beyond Petr Cech.

Branislav Ivanovic then made a crucial interception to deny Spurs a second goal after good work from Andros Townsend and Eriksen almost found Paulinho in the six-yard box.

Chelsea improved after that but it was Spurs who finished the half most dangerously. Townsend smashed an effort off the post in the final minute, just moments after receiving a yellow card for diving.
