Jan Vertonghen, Paulinho to miss Anzhi Makhachkala clash

Jan Vertonghen and Paulinho did not travel with the Tottenham Hotspur squad for tonight's Europa League clash with Anzhi Makhachkala.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Andre Villas-Boas has omitted Jan Vertonghen and Paulinho from his squad to face Anzhi Makhachkala in tonight's Europa League clash in Russia.

The Portuguese coach said that the pair are in need of a rest having played against Aston Villa, Cardiff City and Chelsea within the last 11 days.

"Jan hasn't travelled, neither has Paulinho," Villas-Boas told reporters.

"Our strength in depth allows us to do that. We made that decision because both players were involved in the game [at Villa] two days after we played Cardiff.

"The rest of the boys are buzzing to be involved and the mood in the camp is fantastic, so we hope to take that into the game."

Etienne Capoue (ankle) and Aaron Lennon (foot) are still missing through injury.
