Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta criticises the practice of teams negotiating their own TV rights in La Liga.

Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta feels that the disproportionate sharing of television money in Spain is hindering the overall competitiveness of La Liga.

Real Madrid earned €140m (£119m) for selling their TV rights for last season's matches, with close rivals Barcelona claiming €134m for their own.

In contrast to the league's dominant duo, Granada were only able to negotiate €12m for their rights for the campaign.

The Spanish league are trying to renegotiate to bring more parity to the way the wealth is distributed, and Azpilicueta admits that the current model is adversely affecting the division.

"Other teams have less television money which means the big teams are able to pick the best players [which gives them], the best teams," the full-back told Sky Sports News.

"Every year it makes it more difficult for other teams to get closer [to Barcelona and Real Madrid]. The smaller teams are unable to get near."

Azpilicueta played for Osasuna from 2006 to 2010 and moved to Marseille, before signing for the Blues last summer.
