Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich reportedly regrets appointing Rafael Benitez as the club's new manager due to the club's inconsistent term under the Spaniard.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich reportedly wishes that he had not appointed Rafael Benitez as the club's new manager.

The former Liverpool boss moved to Stamford Bridge in November after Roberto Di Matteo was swiftly dismissed due to the West London outfit's poor Champions League campaign.

It is believed that Abramovich was pushed into appointing Benitez by technical director Michael Emenalo and the Russian billionaire is now regretting his decision due to the Blues' inconsistent period under the Spaniard, according to the Daily Star.

It had been suggested that former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola was expected to take over at Chelsea in the summer but the prolific boss has since agreed to join Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

Reports have claimed that Benitez, who has not been welcomed by a large part of the Chelsea fans, could be replaced by former boss Jose Mourinho or Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp in the summer.
