Chelsea injury list vs. Barrow: Could Romeo Lavia, Malo Gusto return?

Sports Mole rounds up Chelsea's latest injury and suspension news ahead of their EFL Cup third round tie with Barrow

Chelsea welcome League Two leaders Barrow to Stamford Bridge for an EFL Cup third round tie on Tuesday night.

In just the second-ever meeting between the two clubs, over 60 places separate the sides in the English pyramid, with Chelsea currently battling near the top of the Premier League.

Enzo Maresca's side won 3-0 away to West Ham United at the weekend to make three straight away wins to start the campaign, and they ended the weekend in fifth, just behind London rivals Arsenal in fourth.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Chelsea's injury and suspension news ahead of their clash with Barrow, who currently sit at the summit of League Two following a win of their own at the weekend.

Reece James

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: Unknown

James picked up yet another injury on the eve of the new season, and just when it appeared he was making progress in his rehabilitation, the right-back has suffered a recent setback, and looks set to remain out for the foreseeable future.

Romeo Lavia

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: September 24 (vs. Barrow)

Lavia was rumoured to be closing in on a return against Bournemouth two weeks ago, but missed that clash and also did not feature in the matchday squad at the London Stadium on Satuday, but there is a good chance that the midfielder will be back in some capacity here.

Malo Gusto

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: September 24 (vs. Barrow)

Gusto missed the short trip to West Ham at the weekend due to a continuing thigh problem, but the defender has been back in training this week, and could be given minutes here to aid his recovery, even if that is off the bench.

CHELSEA'S SUSPENSION LIST

Chelsea have no players suspended for this fixture.
