Football Association backs Chelsea over alleged racist incident on Paris Metro

The FA backs Chelsea's threat to ban the fans involved in Tuesday's alleged racist incident on the Paris Metro.

The Football Association has backed Chelsea's threat to ban the fans involved in Tuesday's alleged racist incident on the Paris Metro.

A group of Chelsea supporters were filmed preventing a black man from getting onto the train before chanting "We're racist, we're racist and that's the way we like it".

The footage was released following the team's 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last 16.

Chelsea have described the behaviour as "abhorrent" and have vowed to seek out the fans involved and "take the strongest possible action against them, including banning orders".

The FA has now stood in support of the club, condemning the alleged actions of those involved.

"The FA fully supports Chelsea's position in seeking to ban any of the club's season-ticket holders or members who face criminal action in relation to these abhorrent scenes," read an official statement.

"The FA, like the club, completely condemn such disgraceful behaviour which is a criminal offence and those responsible should face the strongest possible punishment."

Scotland Yard has announced that it will examine footage of the incident, while FIFA president Sepp Blatter has claimed that there is "no place in football for racism".
