Championship side Cardiff City part company with manager Mick McCarthy after suffering their eighth successive defeat.

Championship side Cardiff City have announced the departure of manager Mick McCarthy.

Having impressed upon his arrival in South Wales in January, McCarthy was soon rewarded with a two-and-a-half-year contract.

However, the Bluebirds have endured a disastrous run of form in the second tier this season, with their eight successive defeat coming on Saturday afternoon as they went down 2-0 at home to Middlesbrough.

With the club now sitting just above the relegation zone, the Cardiff hierarchy have taken the decision to sack McCarthy after just 34 matches in charge.

A club statement read: "Cardiff City Football Club can confirm that first-team manager Mick McCarthy and assistant manager Terry Connor have left the club by mutual agreement and with immediate effect.

"We would like to thank Mick and Terry for their efforts during their time with the Bluebirds and wish them all the best for the future.

"Steve Morison and Tom Ramasut will oversee first-team duties at this time, as the board of directors begin the process of appointing a permanent replacement."

Cardiff are next in action when they face Stoke City in the Potteries on October 30.
