Burnley midfielder Jack Cork: 'Joe Hart can earn England return'

Burnley midfielder Jack Cork says that new teammate Joe Hart is capable of earning a return to the England squad.

Burnley midfielder Jack Cork has tipped goalkeeper Joe Hart to put himself back into contention for a place in the England squad.

Hart was left out of Gareth Southgate's plans for the World Cup, but the long-time Three Lions number one is attempting to rebuild his career at Burnley.

The 31-year-old has made an impression in his opening two appearances for the Clarets, and Cork feels that his new teammate is capable of earning a return to the international scene.

Cork told reporters: "A lot of signings we do here have a point to prove and that is what keeps the squad hungry, keen to impress and prove people wrong. That is what drives the clubs.

"You have seen it with Tom Heaton and Nick Pope. If you can keep clean sheets like we do it is hard to ignore the goalkeeper when he's English. If Joe does that and plays well he should get back in the squad.

"Joe was quiet in the first half but second half we needed him a lot and it was a great performance from him. He has great experience of the Premier League and Europe and at international level."

Hart marked his Premier League debut for Burnley with a clean sheet against Southampton.
