Craig Mackail-Smith and Ashley Barnes each bagged braces as Brighton & Hove Albion thrashed Barnsley to claim their first win of the season in style this afternoon.

The Seagulls, who had failed to find the net in over 270 minutes of play before today, opened the scoring after just four minutes through a close-range strike from Barnes.

Wayne Bridge doubled the hosts' lead 10 minutes later with a 30-yard free kick.

Craig Davies gave his side hope with a well-taken penalty kick on 35 minutes, but Mackail-Smith restored his side's two-goal advantage before half-time.

Mackail-Smith scored the 11th goal of his Brighton career five minutes after the restart and Barnes completed the scoring nine minutes from time.
