Gustavo Poyet insists his Brighton & Hove Albion side deserve to be top of the table.

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Gustavo Poyet believes that his side deserve to be top of the Championship.

The newly-promoted Seagulls rose to the summit with a 2-0 victory over Peterborough United on Saturday afternoon.

"We were very professional today. It was a game we needed to be strong defensively, we did that and then Nooney and Harley came up with something special for us. Credit goes to the whole team though," he told the club's official website.

"Peterborough made it very difficult at the beginning, they started brightly and had plenty of shots from long distance but they were consistently blocking them. We then scored the goal and it made the difference.

"I am calm and I know where we are at because we are a good team. We play a style of football and make it difficult for the opposition. How long we can keep winning football games? We will have to wait and see. At the moment, we are very good, we are top and we deserve to be there."

Brighton travel to Bristol City after the international break.
