Brazil have failed with their appeal to overturn captain Thiago Silva's yellow card against Colombia.

As a result, the defender will now miss his team's World Cup semi-final against Germany on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old received his second booking of the tournament during Brazil's 2-1 victory over Colombia last Friday.

Despite Brazil lodging an appeal to have the caution rescinded, FIFA confirmed on Monday that Silva's yellow card would be upheld.

David Luiz is expected to captain the host nation when they take on Germany tomorrow night.
