Lewis Grabban goal downs 10-man Wigan Athletic

Lewis Grabban's first-half goal secures all three points for Bournemouth against 10-man Wigan Athletic.

Lewis Grabban's first-half goal was enough for Bournemouth to claim all three points against 10-man Wigan Athletic this afternoon.

Grabban had an early chance for the home side, but Scott Carson was able to make the save after initially dropping the ball.

Brett Pitman put the ball just wide in the 42nd minute but Grabban was able to find the target less than a minute later, forcing the ball under a diving Carson to give Bournemouth the lead.

Pitman had another chance to find the back of the net early in the second half as he was brought down in the box by Jean Beausejour, but Carson was able to stop the striker's effort from the spot.

Pitman was brought down again later in the half, resulting in Callum McManaman being shown a red card for the challenge just three minutes after coming off the bench.

Grabban and Pitman continued to be a threat, with the scorer delivering a cross into the box for his teammate, but Pitman's header was comfortably saved by Carson.

The visitors continued to attack, but Bournemouth's extra man made defending straightforward, allowing Eddie Howe's men to protect their lead until full time.
