Borussia Monchengladbach bottom of Bundesliga following Hamburg loss

Borussia Monchengladbach suffered their fourth loss in as many league games after losing 3-0 at home to Hamburger SV on Friday evening.

The visitors took the lead shortly after the 10-minute mark when Pierre-Michel Lasogga latched on to a poor Tony Jantschke back-pass and put the ball beyond Monchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

Half-chances from Havard Nordtveit, Lars Stindl and Thorgan Hazard followed as the home side looked for an equaliser, before Jantschke saw his own shot saved as he looked to undo his early mistake.

Hamburg's Ivo Ilicevic had a chance to double the visitors' lead but placed his shot above the bar, and while Monchengladbach continued to search for a goal, Jantschke could only head the ball into the arms of opposition keeper Jaroslav Drobny.

It was then Hamburg who grabbed the game's second goal when Lasogga sealed a brace with a downward header on the stroke of half time.

The former Germany Under-21 international had a chance to secure his hat-trick just over five minutes into the second half but placed his ball wide, before Nicolai Muller scored Hamburg's third a minute later after picking the ball up from keeper Drobny.

Ilicevic had another chance saved as Hamburg looked to embarrass the home side further, and Lasogga missed a second opportunity for a hat-trick with 30 minutes to go.

Ibrahima Traore looked for a consolation goal for the home side with 10 minutes left, but his shot was high and wide of the Hamburg goal before Nordtveit furthered Monchengladbach's frustration with a headed miss in injury time.

The result leaves Hamburg in seventh after two wins and two losses this season, while Monchengladbach's struggles continue as a fourth loss in as many games keeps them at the foot of the table.
