Dougie Freedman surprised by Championship spending

Dougie Freedman admits that he is confused by the spending of Championship clubs following the recent introduction of the financial fair play rules.

Bolton Wanderers manager Dougie Freedman has admitted that he is surprised to see Championship clubs spending so much money in the transfer window.

Freedman admits that his transfer activity has been influenced by the recently introduced financial fair play rules, but questions the approach made by other teams in the league.

"We had a couple of high earners like Kevin Davies, Martin Petrov and Sam Ricketts we had to move on – good players and good lads but on a lot of money that we couldn't carry over two years," Freedman told The Bolton News.

"I didn't make these rules up but I'm scratching my head to see what they are actually for because people like Nottingham Forest and QPR are going out and spending £2-£3m at a time.

"It's a state when you are trying to put your own house in order but that's the only thing I can do."

Bolton travel to the City Ground to play Forest tomorrow afternoon.
