Half-Time Report: Robert Tesche puts Birmingham City ahead at Bolton Wanderers

Robert Tesche gives Birmingham City the lead against Bolton Wanderers in the final Championship game of the season.

Robert Tesche's strike before half time has given Birmingham City the lead in their final Championship game of the season against Bolton Wanderers.

Wanderers almost took the lead inside two minutes when a tantalising Oscar Threlkeld cross was met by Emile Heskey, only for the veteran forward to miss the target.

Eidur Gudjohnsen then forced a save out of Blues keeper Darren Randolph as the Trotters continued to threaten an early breakthrough.

On 11 minutes, the Icelandic veteran provided an opportunity for Adam le Fondre when his pass found the ex-Reading player, but his shot failed to trouble Randolph's goal.

However, they could have fallen behind minutes later when Tesche unleashed a shot from distance, which needed a strong stop from keeper Adam Bogdan.

Bolton continued to enjoy the lion's share of the goal-scoring opportunities, with Tim Ream heading wide from a corner before Mark Davies fired a shot off target midway through the first period.

Just after the half-hour mark, Neil Danns saw his strike turned away by a busy Randolph in the City goal before Heskey went close with a header on 31 minutes.

Birmingham looked a threat in the final minutes of the half with Demarai Gray and Clayton Donaldson having efforts blocked.

Jonathan Grounds then fizzed a shot narrowly wide before Tesche beat Bogdan from close range after a goalmouth scramble following a corner.
