Luke Hyam own goal gifts victory to Blackburn Rovers

Luke Hyam's own goal makes the difference as Blackburn Rovers beat Rotherham United 1-0 at Ewood Park.

Luke Hyam's own goal secured a 1-0 victory for Blackburn Rovers this evening as Rotherham United missed the chance to climb out of the relegation zone.

Paul Lambert continued his unbeaten start as Blackburn boss as his side climbed into the top half of the table thanks to an error from Rotherham midfielder Hyam.

Rotherham made the better start and could have been ahead early on when Hyam collected a ball sent over the Blackburn defence, but Grant Hanley recovered well to clear off the line after the midfielder had chipped his effort over Jason Steele.

After looking comfortable for long spells, Rotherham fell behind when Hyam could only head into the net while attempting to clear a corner under pressure in the box.

The visitors recovered well from the setback, but they struggled to create clear chances before the break as Steele pushed Joe Newell's shot to safety.

Corry Evans linked up with Tom Lawrence early in the second half to stretch the Rotherham defence, before sending his shot just past the post as Lambert's side looked for a crucial second goal.

As Rotherham found it difficult to put pressure on the hosts, Lee Camp kept them in the game with a fine save to push Shane Duffy's header over the crossbar.

Despite the efforts of their goalkeeper, Rotherham were unable to find a late reply and Neil Redfearn's side could drop to the bottom of the table if Bolton Wanderers win at the weekend.
