Alan Shearer to learn Blackburn Rovers fate on Thursday

Blackburn will draw up their managerial shortlist on Thursday, with former striker Alan Shearer potentially among the candidates.

Alan Shearer will learn whether he is being considered for the Blackburn Rovers job when they draw up their managerial shortlist on Thursday.

Rovers chief executive Derek Shaw revealed that Shearer is a candidate for the post vacated by Steve Kean, who resigned last month following a troubled relationship with the club's fans and owners.

Shearer, who won the Premier League title during his time at Rovers between 1992 and 1996, has admitted his interest in taking charge at Ewood Park.

However, Blackburn's global advisor Shebby Singh refused to confirm whether the former England striker had applied for the vacancy, insisting that it will not be filled in a rush.

He told Sky Sports News:: "At this moment in time, to be fair to everyone, I will not reveal any names.

"I would love to do it as soon as possible. It could be one week, it could be three weeks.

"So while we are in a hurry to appoint a new manager, we are not going to be rushed into it."

Ex-Rovers captain Tim Sherwood, Sven Goran Eriksson and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have also been linked with the post.
