Mark Hughes is touted as a possible replacement for Blackburn Rovers boss Steve Kean.

Mark Hughes has been touted as a possible replacement for under-fire Blackburn Rovers boss Steve Kean.

Rovers owners Venky's decided that Steve Kean would have to go before last night's 2-1 home defeat to Bolton, according to The Mirror.

Venky's are reportedly poised to offer Hughes a substantial pay offer to take over from Kean.

Hughes previously coached Blackburn between 2004 and 2008, where he guided the team to their first FA Cup semi-final in 40 years and secured a top-six Premier League finish.

The Welshman is currently free after quitting Fulham in the summer following 11 months at the London club.

Blackburn are currently bottom of the Premier League table, with 10 points from 17 games.
