Juan Bernat surprised by Bayern Munich move

Bayern Munich wing-back Juan Bernat admits that it was a surprise to move to the club from Valencia last summer.

Bayern Munich wing-back Juan Bernat has admitted that he was surprised to join the club in the summer.

The Spanish international, 21, moved to the Allianz Arena from Valencia in July on a five-year contract.

He has scored one goal in 28 appearances for the German champions so far this season.

While he has claimed that it was a "big step" to sign for Bayern, Bernat is pleased with life in Bavaria.

"When a club like Bayern and a coach like Pep [Guardiola] shows interest in you then it surprises you, especially at the age of 21, but it has certainly been a big step for me and my family, to have the chance to sign for such a big club," he is quoted as saying by UEFA's official website.

Bayern are in action tonight when they face Shakhtar Donetsk in the last 16 of the Champions League.
