Barnsley sack Micky Mellon, Ian Willcock

Barnsley sack assistant manager Micky Mellon and goalkeeping coach Ian Willcock.

Barnsley have sacked assistant manager Micky Mellon and goalkeeping coach Ian Willcock.

Mellon's dismissal may come as a surprise after he took charge of the team for a short period last year following the sacking of David Flitcroft as manager before Danny Wilson was appointed.

In a statement, Barnsley said: "The club would like to place on record its thanks to both Micky and Ian for their service and wish them all the best for the future."

When Wilson took over, he said that it was "paramount" to keep Mellon on.

Barnsley are bottom of the Championship, three points adrift of safety with 11 games left to play this season.
