Sevilla defender Alberto Botia insists that Barcelona did not try to re-sign him this summer.

Former Barcelona defender Alberto Botia has insisted that the club did not contact him over a possible transfer this summer.

The 23-year-old, who came through the youth ranks at the club, joined Sporting Gijon in 2009 before completing a move to Sevilla in July.

It had been suggested that the Catalan club had attempted to re-sign the defender, but Botia has quelled such claims.

"To my knowledge, there has not been any contact between Barcelona and my agent or between the clubs," Botia told El Mundo Deportivo.

"Nobody from Barcelona got in touch with me personally. It would have been very difficult to say no to them had they contacted me.

"I am no longer thinking about Barcelona, though. I'm feeling very well at Sevilla. I'm feeling strong and things are going well."

Botia has made three appearances for Sevilla this season.
