Xavi: 'Leicester City's Riyad Mahrez is good enough for Barcelona'

Xavi says that Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez is "good enough" to play for Barcelona.

Barcelona legend Xavi has claimed that Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez is "good enough" to play for the Spanish giants.

The Algerian, who was voted PFA Player of the Year last season, was linked with a summer move away from the King Power Stadium following his crucial role in Leicester's shock Premier League-winning campaign.

Arsenal and Barcelona were touted as possible destinations for the 25-year-old, but he opted to sign a new long-term contract with the Foxes.

"Mahrez is good enough to play for Barcelona, but I am pleased he decided to stay with Leicester," Mahrez told Shortlist.

"He clearly must have had options, but if Leicester had lost their best player after such a big achievement it would have been a shame. It will be interesting to see how him and Leicester perform in Europe this season."

Claudio Ranieri and his Leicester players will kick off their Champions League campaign next Wednesday with a Group G clash against Club Brugge.
