Lionel Messi has slammed Barcelona vice president Javier Faus for "knowing nothing about football" after the Blaugrana chief questioned whether the Ballon d'Or nominee merited an improved contract.
Messi, who only signed an extension on his existing deal in February, has reportedly sought better terms since Brazil starlet Neymar is thought to have usurped the Argentine as the club's biggest earner.
Earlier this month Faus refuted suggestions that the 26-year-old would be offered a better deal at Camp Nou, but Messi - who is ruled out until next year with injury - claims that he is unconcerned about the prospect of a new contract.
He told Catalan radio station RAC1: "Mr Faus knows nothing about football and wants to run Barcelona like a business, which it's not.
"Barcelona is the best club in the world and it should be run by the best directors in the world.
"Neither I nor any of my representatives have asked for an improved contract. The truth is that I'm focused on my recovery and not thinking about anything else."
Messi's current contract is valid until 2018.
