Jose Mari Bakero heading for Barcelona?

A report claims that former Barcelona player Jose Mari Barkero has been offered the chance to replace Andoni Zubizarreta as the Catalan outfit's new sporting director.

Former Barcelona player Jose Mari Bakero has reportedly been offered the chance to become the Catalan outfit's new sporting director.

Club president Josep Maria Bartomeu is currently searching for a candidate to fill that position after Andoni Zubizarreta departed last month.

According to AS, Bakero, who captained Barca while Johan Cruyff was in charge, has been sounded out.

The 51-year-old, who is currently in charge of Peruvian side Juan Aurich, has also previously been on the coaching staff at Valencia.

It is understood that Bakero could arrive at Camp Nou as early as this weekend.
