Manchester United, Arsenal target Ron Vlaar 'ready to quit Aston Villa'

Aston Villa captain Ron Vlaar is preparing himself for a "big move" away from the Villans, according to the defender's agent.

The agent of Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar has revealed that his client is ready to secure a "big move" away from the club.

The Netherlands stalwart, whose contract at Villa Park expires in the summer, has been heavily linked with January moves to Arsenal and Manchester United.

Villa boss Paul Lambert has previously dismissed the notion of selling his captain for a cut-price fee this winter, however.

"It is obvious that for Ron, now is the moment to make a nice big move in his career. Ron is very ambitious," Arnold Oosterveer is quoted as saying by The Mirror.

"The situation is ideal for Ron right now. You can imagine that we are not in a hurry.

"I don't want to react to the rumour that he will move to either Arsenal or Man United, but Ron is very ambitious."

The 29-year-old, who enhanced his reputation with a series of impressive displays at the World Cup, limped out of the Oranje's 3-2 defeat to Mexico on Wednesday night.
