Ray Wilkins hails Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood

Ray Wilkins says that he likes the managerial approach of Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood, having linked up with him as assistant.

Ray Wilkins has said that he admires the management style of Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood.

The former Tottenham Hotspur manager has appointed Wilkins as his assistant at Villa Park, ahead of his first full season in charge of the Midlands outfit.

Wilkins has suggested that Sherwood likes to give all players a chance, regardless of their value or experience.

"You saw Tim work at Tottenham. He was prepared to put young Nabil Bentaleb and Ryan Mason in and leave out expensive players. I think the great thing about Tim with his management skills is the fact he will play players that are playing well," Wilkins told Villa's official website.

"It doesn't matter if you're 17 or 34. He will pick the best player. And he has emphasized the fact that when we train, we have to train with intensity. If you are not being seen to train with that intensity, you might not be selected.

"It is also interesting for supporters to hear what I'm saying. You might turn up and say 'why is he not playing?' Well Tim has seen them all week. That's why he's not playing. He has selected a side of the highest quality he can put out."

Sherwood took charge of Villa in February before helping to keep them in the Premier League last season.
