Paul Lambert "proud" of Aston Villa's start

Paul Lambert is pleased that his Aston Villa side took three points from their opening three Premier League games.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has insisted that he is happy with his side's display in their opening three Premier League games of the season.

The Villans have played Arsenal, Chelsea and now Liverpool and, despite losing their last two, have three points to show from their start.

"We have had really tough week," BBC Sport quotes Lambert as saying. "We have had those two intense matches against Arsenal and Chelsea with quick turnarounds.

"These are three teams that are vying to get in the top four, top five. I am proud of the team for what they have done.

"If I could have taken three points from these three games, I would have taken it right at the beginning."

Villa face Newcastle United on September 14 in their next Premier League game.
