Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert has backed defender Philippe Senderos to maintain his early-season form ahead of facing former club Arsenal this afternoon.
The defender has emerged as a key member of Lambert's team since his Bosman move in the summer, with the Villans second in the table after conceding just once all season.
"I've always liked him as a player because I think he's been a consistent performer," he told the Birmingham Mail.
"I always thought he was a really steady centre-half when he was at Fulham. I always rated him there.
"Playing at Arsenal would have given him a really good feel. He's been consistent and he is a brilliant pro. He's very professional and he really looks after himself."
The 29-year-old, who spent six years on Arsenal's books, faces his old club at 3pm today.
