Arsene Wenger rubbishes rumours Jack Wilshere could join Manchester City

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger rejects speculation linking Jack Wilshere to Manchester City.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted that the club do not need to sell their best players amid reports that Manchester City are interested in signing Jack Wilshere.

The midfielder has not played in the Gunners' first team since November due to troublesome ankle injuries, but is in the squad to face Burnley on Saturday.

Reports have claimed that Arsenal would not consider selling Wilshere for a bid less than £30m, but Wenger has suggested that no amount of money will convince the club to part with the midfielder.

"You can imagine my answer [about the rumours] and send it to Sky Sports News," Wenger said in this morning's press conference. "We are not in a position anymore where we have to sell our best players.

"Everybody can have a really big impact over the rest of the season, Jack included. That depends on the game, the fitness, the availability and the need of the team. Everybody is exactly the same."

It has been reported that Arsenal are planning to offer Wilshere a new contract following the rumoured interest from City.
