Arsene Wenger says that speculation of Arsenal being close to signing David Luiz and Thomas Lemar from Chelsea and Monaco respectively "are wrong".

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has dismissed claims that he is hopeful of signing David Luiz and Thomas Lemar during the January transfer window.

The Gunners recently emerged as surprise rumoured candidates to sign Luiz from rivals Chelsea, while Monaco winger Lemar is understood to be a long-term target.

Amid reports in the national press last week that Wenger is ready to make a move for both men before the January 31 deadline, the Frenchman has denied that any deals are close to completion.

"I don't want to speak about any special name but these reports are wrong," he told reporters.

Arsenal have also been linked with Hoffenheim midfielder Kerem Demirbay, who has previously been on the radar of Everton.
