Arsene Wenger: Wojciech Szczesny has apologised for smoking "mistake"

Arsene Wenger confirms that Wojciech Szczesny has apologised after the Arsenal goalkeeper was caught smoking in the team's dressing room.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has apologised after he was caught smoking in the team dressing room.

The Poland international is said to have been hit with a £20,000 fine after he lit up in the showers following the Gunners' 2-0 defeat to Southampton on New Year's Day.

When asked about the incident in today's press conference, Wenger said: "I don't want to talk about what happens in our dressing room because what happens stays in the dressing room. Apart from the fact it doesn't stay in the dressing room!

"Of course [he apologised]. He's a serious boy who works very hard. He's not the first to make a mistake and not the last."

Recently, Szczesny's father Maciej rubbished reports that the goalkeeper was caught puffing on a cigarette and hit out at Arsenal's 'embarrassing' defence.

In response to these comments, Wenger told reporters: "I don't listen to the mother, father, grandmother."

Meanwhile, Mesut Ozil is available for Sunday's match against Stoke City after spending three months on the sidelines with a knee injury.
