Arsene Wenger: Arsenal "a bit fortunate" to beat Burnley

Arsene Wenger admits that Arsenal were lucky to claim victory over Burnley on Sunday evening, with Laurent Koscielny's late winner coming in controversial circumstances.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confessed that his side had to ride their luck to leave Turf Moor with all three points this evening, having claimed a 1-0 victory over Burnley through a controversial late goal.

The Gunners were on course to drop points for the first time in five outings when locked at 0-0 at the end of added time, only for Laurent Koscielny to bundle the ball over the line with the use of his hand.

Wenger insists that he did not see the incident that led to his side's dramatic winner in Lancashire, but was quick to hail the importance of the victory which lifts his side right into title contention at this early stage.

"We are a bit fortunate today, because we are a bit jaded physically and made some technical mistakes," he told BBC Sport. "Burnley defended very well and they looked from every corner as if they could score.

"I have not seen the winner but I have been told that we were a little fortunate. The impact of the other results today on the morale of the team could have been negative if we had not won.

"Burnley are a tough team though, everyone will find it hard here. When you come back here you know what it is like to play football back in years past."

Arsenal, now just two points off league leaders Manchester City, return to action on October 15 with a home match against Swansea City.
