Wales boss Chris Coleman has revealed that he wants to select Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross in his next squad.
The 25-year-old defender was born in Chester but raised in Flintshire, Wales, and he is therefore eligible to represent Wales at international level.
However, Coleman has insisted that he will speak to Welsh skipper Aaron Ramsey before approaching Shawcross, with the pair's relationship strained after the latter broke Ramsey's leg in a tackle during a Premier League game in February 2010.
"Ryan is a good player who could strengthen us. I will have a conversation with Aaron because he's somebody I respect a great deal, he's our captain and an important player," he told The Sun.
"I won't shy away from it because there are issues. My job is to try and improve Wales. We don't have a huge pool, we have to make the best of what we have. We could look at Ryan."
Shawcross has yet to receive international recognition for England despite making 170 league appearances for Stoke over the past five seasons.
