David Seaman: 'Unai Emery needs to win quickly if he takes over at Arsenal'

Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman believes that Unai Emery will need to get some quick wins under his belt if he is appointed manager.

Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman has claimed that Unai Emery will need to get up and running swiftly if he becomes the club's new manager.

The Spaniard is expected to be appointed by the Gunners later this week after the Arsenal board unanimously selected him.

Emery is a free agent after being sacked by Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month for the club's failings in the Champions League, but he had a successful two-year spell, guiding the club to five trophies, including the Ligue 1 title.

Seaman, who played for the North London outfit between 1990 and 2003, believes that the fans will demand quick success.

"[Emery] inherits a fantastic club and a fantastic training facility. Everything is there for him, he has got no excuses in those departments," the former goalkeeper told Sky Sports News.

"There is going to be a few changes hopefully, the defence needs to be a lot stronger, attacking and midfield wise we are OK on that front. I think the defensive side needs a good look at, so I would imagine that would be his first concern, but the fans just want success.

"He has got to start winning quickly. We have dropped behind a lot of the bigger clubs, losing out financially as well. They are attracting the bigger players because they are winning trophies and paying the money, so we have to address that situation.

"It's all on success. If the team starts playing well early then the fans will get behind them. But who knows how it is going to go, it could go either way."

Wenger won three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups during his 22-year spell as Arsenal boss.
