Roberto Martinez: 'We showed incredible character'

Everton manager Roberto Martinez believes there were positives despite his side losing 2-1 against Arsenal.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez felt that his side showed 'incredible character' and could have earned a positive result in their 2-1 defeat against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Two headed goals from Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny gave Arsene Wenger's side the win that moved them to the top of the Premier League and despite a consolation from Ross Barkley, Martinez believes that his side wasted three good chances to draw level.

The Spaniard is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "We showed an incredible character and an incredible fight, obviously the difficulty comes when you are facing a team like Arsenal that are probably in the middle of their most significant week of their season.

"You get the two goal lead that they had in a very short period of time, a dead ball situation that as we all know, Arsenal are not well known for and I think we should have done a little better.

"But for us to put Petr Cech into such a dangerous position and force him to be at his very best, I felt that we had three outstanding moments and we should have ended up with a positive result."

The result keeps Everton in 10th in the Premier League table after 10 games.
