Mikel Arteta's talks with Arsenal 'at a sensitive stage'

Arsenal's attempts to appoint Manchester City assistant Mikel Arteta as the club's new manager have reportedly reached 'a sensitive stage'.

Arsenal have reportedly reached an advanced stage of negotiations regarding the potential managerial appointment of Mikel Arteta.

Over the past 48 hours, it has been well documented that the Manchester City assistant has emerged as the favourite to replace Unai Emery at the Emirates Stadium.

While City are looking for a quick resolution, the Arsenal hierarchy allegedly require the Spaniard to go through a prolonged recruitment process before confirming the former midfielder as their new boss.

However, Sky Sports News claims that discussions have now progressed to a sensitive stage, hinting that both parties are working to get a deal concluded as soon as possible.

Nevertheless, it is said that Arteta is still contemplating his long-term future, aware that he is well placed to eventually succeed Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium.

A number of senior players at Arsenal have reportedly expressed concern over the possible arrival of Arteta.
