Report: Chelsea sign Samuel Eto'o and end Wayne Rooney pursuit

Chelsea have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Samuel Eto'o and have ended their interest in Wayne Rooney.

Chelsea have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Samuel Eto'o, ending their interest in Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney.

The deal to bring in the former Barcelona striker is part of the £30m transfer of fellow Anzhi Makhachkala forward Willian.

According to the Telegraph, Blues manager Jose Mourinho wants to keep the deal a secret, as he thinks talk of Rooney's future will help to unsettle United ahead of Chelsea's visit on Monday.

The transfer fee for Eto'o, who played for Mourinho at Inter Milan, is thought to be around £2m.

Chelsea have had two bids rejected for Rooney already this summer and were expected to come back with a third after Monday's game.

The move for Eto'o effectively ends any interest in the England international, and also casts further doubts over the futures of Demba Ba, Victor Moses and Juan Mata at Chelsea.
