Mark Cavendish has confirmed that he will compete in the omnium at the Dudenhofen GP in Germany later this month in a bid to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The Etixx-Quickstep rider has focused on road racing since missing out on a medal in the velodrome at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, but the hilly course in Rio is not expected to suit sprinters.
Coach co-ordinator Iain Dyer told BBC Sport: "He made a very promising start back on the track in Derby and he'll be looking to continue building on that form."
The 30-year-old, who has never won an Olympic medal, finished second behind London 2012 bronze-medallist Ed Clancy in the Revolution series last weekend, before winning gold in the Madison alongside Sir Bradley Wiggins.
