India beat Australia in Melbourne to wrap up Twenty20 series win

India beat Australia by 27 runs in Melbourne to open up an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match Twenty20 series.

India have exacted some revenge for their 4-1 defeat in the one-day international series to Australia by opening up an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match Twenty20 series.

The tourists won today's match by 27 runs thanks to strong displays from both the batsmen and bowlers.

Australia won the toss and chose to field, but they failed to take an early wicket as Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan put on 97 for the opening wicket before the latter was out for 42 off the bowling of Glenn Maxwell.

Sharma was then run out for 60 before Virat Kohli blasted an unbeaten 59 off 33 balls to power India to 184-3 from their 20 overs.

Australia's reply got off to a fine start as Aaron Finch led from the front with a match-high knock of 74 from 48 balls. His opening-wicket partnership of 94 with Shaun Marsh (23) put the hosts in an excellent position to complete the chase in the final 10 overs, but the middle-order struggled.

In total, eight wickets fell as India restricted Australia to 157, with Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah both finishing with two wickets each.

The third and final match of the series takes place in Sydney on Sunday.
